One habit stops nearly every scam.

Warning signs — stop and think when you see:
  • Urgency — "act right now" or you'll lose money
  • Someone you don't know demanding private info
  • A "bank" contact you didn't start
  • Pressure to pay a new way or move fast
Do this

STOP. Don't trust what's handed to you. Verify on your own — the real number is on the back of your card, or use your bank's official app.

Vishing / Smishing

Fake Calls & Texts

A real bank won't demand this over the phone.

Warning signs:
  • Urgent pressure — "verify your details now"
  • "Your account is at risk, act immediately"
  • A call from a fake "fraud department"
  • Asking for codes, PINs, or passwords
Do this

Hang up. Call your bank using the number on the back of your card. Never the one they gave you.

Lock Your Account

Your login is the door. Lock it.

Warning signs / actions:
  • Use a unique password for every account
  • Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA)
  • Watch statements for charges you don't recognize
  • Check haveibeenpwned.com to see if a password leaked

Phishing

Spot the Phish

Real banks don't email you asking for info.

Warning signs:
  • Sender address that looks close, but isn't the real one
  • Generic greeting like "Dear Customer"
  • Urgent demands and a link to "fix" it
  • Spelling errors or an odd sense of hurry
Do this

Hover over links before clicking. When in doubt, use your email's "Report phishing" button. Link says "verify"? Don't click — call your bank.

Safe Online Shopping

Shop smart so your card stays yours.

  • Use a virtual or temporary card number when available
  • Never share your card number by phone or message
  • Check statements for unfamiliar charges

  • Think you've been scammed? Report it — it helps stop others
  • In the US, file a report at reportfraud.ftc.gov
  • Report phishing emails to reportphishing@apwg.org
  • Check haveibeenpwned.com and scamwise.com for a second opinion
  • Always report to your bank or carrier too
